from anarctic.ca: Maps of the Web: visual Internet search directory, ODP, chat, bookmarks. Unfortunately, I find the 3D visualization pretty unusable. The idea of little houses for each site with their size relative to their (I guess) link popularity is a nice one (if disheartening for weberrific). But after a single view of an area, all I get are errors that eventually shut down my browser without so much as a whimper. Anyone have any better luck?
The Web Design Index seems to give a sense of professionality to the job... I'd like to see it, but I don't know that I'd buy it...
Oh, baby. This is wicked cool. And a hoot besides. Be sure and read the explanation. Culture jamming can be cool.
Well, my parents left this morning. It's always difficult when family leaves, although as my friend, Steve, says, "at least you get your life back". We had a fantastic thanksgiving dinner, and then my family surprised me with a birthday cake and some great presents: my wife and children gave me a clark bass guitar with a Crate practice amp, and my parents gave me a new leather shaving case and The Social Life of Information. It was a great night. More linky later.

How very thoughtful. Thank you.
Spent all day trying to post... seems like blogger may be having a few growing pains. Don't wanta have to set up my own custom method of posting/archiving... Hope I don't need to.
Thought-provoking graphical analysis of a possible relationship between race and political party affiliation.
Interesting article regarding a missing voting mechanism recovered from an elected officials car... His explanation seems sound, but it just goes to show where we are.
My father and step-mother are visiting. They got here Tuesday night, and we have just been hanging out, talking a lot. It's amazing how much wisdom our parents can accumulate. And it's amazing, as always, how blood will tell. If my wife and my step-mother are not identical twins separated only by 30+ years, I'll eat my copy of My Cousin, My Gastroenterologist. And my aunt wrote me a coupla weeks ago. It was great to hear from her - it had literally been years. It took me a long time to learn the value of family; hopefully I'll be able to pass that along to my kids so they grow up with it instead of having to learn it as an adult.
Tonight we're having our thanksgiving celebration a wee bit early, before they go. Turkey, potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, corn, wild rice, bread, homemade cranberry/tangerine sauce... I can't wait to go home!!!
I had forgotten how much I had enjoyed i am bald.

Aw yeaaaah! This is gonna be cool! Well, silly, yes... but still cool.
The first washing machine on the internet.
Planet Project - using technology to serve as a digital mirror, enabling millions of people all over the world to see and then instantly compare themselves to one another in real time. Actually really cool, if you're into the whole who am I/test-taking/survey-filling kind of thing...
An excellent map of the election where the size of the state is proportional to the number of electoral votes. This makes it clear why what seems like such a small part of the country that voted Democratically is actually quite large.
Go do something good right now. Warning: liberal agenda ahead!

Kind of a cool idea - shoplifiting in reverse...
This is sad to hear, coming as I do from New Mexico. Bush Executes 253 New Mexico Democrats: Retakes State's Five Electoral Votes

Wow! Yet another ballot-creation contest!
One of my favorite comics... I used to have this posted on my cubicle at work. The Adventures of ACTION ITEM!
Amazon gets into the ballot action...
A variety of Web-hosted services are now available to developers. Soon you could find yourself using or writing one.
More haha for a Monday.
Say this is a robot voice to yourself... "Distort! [buzz] [whirr] Distort! [click] Distort!
You know what? It's a Monday. And I have nothing to say. I spent all weekend cleaning, and no matter how it seems to have helped my outlook on life, it seems to have sapped my vigor.
I am looking forward to my father and step-mother coming to visit tonight. And my brother's girlfriend will be here on Wednesday for a few hours. Family rules!
