Education

Here's a decent article on teaching today in the US. Of course, my personal take on modern education is pretty simple: stop caring about kid's feelings. Some kids are going to be left behind; they're not as smart. That's how life is, it ain't fair. But instead of no child left behind, we have Every Child Left Behind, as they dumb down modern education to the speed of the lowest slopehead in the class, leaving the brighter kids to become bored, disillusioned, and uncaring. Not doing more than average is what keeps the average down. Etc. Etc.

In other words, stop trying to create this magical "fair" fantasy land, and live in the real world, where people are different, and teach the bright kids what they need to know, and teach the dumb kids what they need to know. Avoid the stigma of "difference" by going to a performance-based grouping rather than an age-based grouping. Of course, kids will still differentiate; that's human nature.

Oh geez, it just irritates me. I see how bad the schools are getting, and I just wonder if there is any hope for the public school system any more.
